PSG Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious cup on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the dying moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
